    Default Fly Rod ?

Thinking of getting a 3 or 4 wt rod for panfish. A lot of rods Iv looked at are 4 piece. I assume the reason is convenience to break down and transport. my other 3 fly rods are 9 foot 2 piece. Less things to come apart and great backbone. Question is are the 3 or 4 piece rods ok or do they have draw backs to a 2 piece rod?

4pc fly rods are standard now. Most of the big fly rod companies don't even make 2pc anymore. There's almost no demand for 2pc.

Lots of people use 4pc rods for tarpon, so you won't have a problem with bluegill.

thanks. Then for a 3 or 4 wt what about length? Im used to 9 foot but I see a lot of the lower wt rods are 7 to 8 foot. Standard I guess. Just never used a shorter rod for fly fishing.

Most lighter weight rods are shorter, but you can find 8.5-9' 3wts and 4wts. What's your budget?

TFO has several rods you could try:

You can order the whole outfit from this guy:

Cabela's also has some nice combos.

I mentioned TFO earlier. TFO is one company that is still producing 2pc rods.
