Thread: Scuds and jigs

Getting ready to test them on bluegill and crappie. Jigs are tied on 1/124-ounce heads.
Scuds are weighted with .17 lead wire.

Nice work ! Body material for the scuds? I`d like to try tying some of them, looks like gill food to me..............

Love the scuds and really like the red (orange?) ones. Have you ever tried just palmer hackle for the body then over-lay with the back material? It doesn't seem to get ragged as quick, but then again, sometimes the more ragged the better. Those will catch some fish for sure!

For shellbacks, I used pheasent and turkey for a long time, but have switched to using raffia - works well and lots of color choices.

Those scuds look really nice!

All those need to be at their best, is to have the barbs bent down.

Really nice scuds! Very clean and segmenting is very visible. Should get some really nice fish to hit those. What is the scud back color you used?

I used brown and orange scud back.
