    Exclamation Hickory Point Slabfest

Ok you you guys. That other thread was getting rather long, so thought I would start this one.
Fest is only 2 days away.
Flycaster, could you move the "Needed to bring list" over to this thread? think it would make it eaisier for all.
I will be able to bring another fryer, so please put me down for 2 w/propane for each of them.
EJL will be with me and he has a portable cleaning station.
Have a new fish breader, so will bring that along with some breading.
Will prolly try to bring the truck over first, and meet partner there on the water. What time did you say the gate would be open??
Well, that is about all from me. Anyone else have any changes? Can we ge a head count please so those bringing food can judge how much to bring??
Lets make this one as good, if not better than the last. Looking forward to it.

    Default Gates open

Gate should be open before you open your eyes in the morning.
They should be opened at about midnight, there is also going to be a Bass Tournament for Southern High School and they are going to use the large building.
There is a lot of parking available there, so we will not get squeezed out of parking.
I plan on being at the ramp at 6:00 AM

    Default Good news/Bad news.

Good news is that I may be able to finish in the top slot for biggest fish......
Bad news (which is the reason) one of the best slab fishermen in this area just called and said he would not be able to fish. Down with the flu. Lets all wish Shu a speedy recovery. He said if he felt good enough, he may make it over to eat a bit, but not to count on him.
Also, on a lighter note, guess you could put me down for the hush puppies too. If I get to quit fishin early enough, will have time to whup them up. Word of caution though, I like jap-o-lane-o's in mine.
Makng my shopping list now. If there is anything (within reason please) we need, let me know!

Put us down for the knives, forks and spoons; disposable drink cups (cold only I assume?) and a big ole can of baked beans. Should we figure enough of everything for 25 to 30 people?

    Shouldn't be more than 30
    Only cold ones.
Some people don't like drinking from the can

    Default Forgot something.

I KNOW we are gonna catch more than was caught last time. Has to be more caught. Water temp., pre front, moon, high of 82.....things just point to one heck of a fishing day.
So here's an idea. If you would like to take some fish home with you, bring some zip lock bags of what kind and size you like to use. Hopefully there will be enough for everyone to take home and enjoy later.

I tryed the ramp at Hickory point this morning. The shallow ramps are closed (first 6)and the second set of ramps, #1 is closed. The problem with #2 and #3 is that when backing down, you will drop in a hole at the end of the concrete. If your boat is still on, you could tear your axle up. Us 4, 5 and 6. The guy trying to pull his pontoon boat out, heeded my warning and only backed partially, then cranked his boat on. Lot of work since he could not drive his boat one. BE CAREFUL. There probally will be a lot of people there saturday. There are two additional ramps on the north side of Little Lake Harris. If you have a state fishing atlas, it will show you.

Are we using the picnic area to the south of the ramp?

Since there is a bass tournament, it maybe hard to find a dock space. Maybe we can double up.

Both sides of the road approaching the ramp turn are used for staging. Looks like 8 plus boats can be staged at one time or you can go to the parking area and prepare your boat.

Tryed from 9 to 1:00pm. Got one bluegill. Trolled for about 3 miles, looking at what the locals were doing. Some were in the lilly pads, grass or inbetween the island (south of ramp). The wind came up and I headed home.

I caught 50 plus on Tuesday at the Clermont chain. Kept 14. Threw back all that were heavy with spawn. Had enough for a few meals for myself.

    See you saturday.
