Default More to this than I thought

I have to say, I am a rookie to trolling. I mainly fish a jig on a 16ft pole in smaller bodies of water. Even in Talquin ( the 2 times I have fished it ) I mainly fished the lily pads because that's where they were at that time of the spring. This weekend, I tried trolling in the delta area of Bay Minette, in and around the mouth of creeks and such off of the river. I didnt do well at all ( 0 ). I have concluded that I do not know what I am doing. There is more to this trolling business than I originally thought. So I hope you experienced guys dont get annoyed if I post (stupid ) questions. I am just trying to learn a new way to catch bigger crappie. So basically, if you guys (that know what you are doing) have any free advice, I'm all ears.

Use your electronics and find the fish on the breaks, that is the place that crappie will hang out prior to going into the pads and shallows.

Its also about going very slow when trolling.

My 2 cents worth. Maybe we can make this a good discussion.

Im not sure how to tell if my jig is running at the depth that the fish are holding. How do you tell? Is there a trick to that?
