    Default Talquin this morning

Fished Talquin today from about 8-2 and got one keeper that was 12" and a few small fish that were maybe 10 max that ended up just going back and lost a few more bites. I launched at Williams, went to Harvey Creek and trolled from the East side of it, crossed the mouth and picked up some, headed back all the way to Williams and got my keeper over there (not sure which ramp that is before williams) I was marking a lot of fish in some areas but couldn't get much. The smaller ones were hitting a pumpkin seed jig and the bigger one was trolling a naked minnow with no jigs.

I think I have it figured out a little better. Today I went with tying a 1/4 -1/2 ounce egg weight on the bottom and about 20" up put a 1/16 jig or hal fly on and another foot up another one. I did this three rods up front with me. It's the easiest way for me to actually have any idea what depths my baits are at. The fish all came from mainly dragging bottom or a couple feet up in about 25 ft. of water.

If you was dragging a egg weight, did you lose many lures on those old Talqiun stumps?

I heard a rumor that a lot of fish were caught this weekend bya 1 boat by using double jigs, a 1/16 and a 1/32 and no lead at all fishing in the mouth of the creeks.....

I lost a few egg weightsand a couple lures. For the most part I had them just a little off the bottom. I had to watch my fishfinder a lot and any depth change I'd pick up the speed until for a second or reel in some. I talked to a couple guys that caught a lot of fish the other day just fishing minnows though and anchored up.

Trolled the curtain today from 1030 to 1 and cought 7 good ones. Only saw one other person catch a fish. I guess I'm lucky! Lots of throwbacks. Surface temp 54 F. East wind at about 10 made it tough.

I am going to assume you have an inline swivel with that rig too, to eliminate some line twist.

At 1/2 oz and 20 foot of water you are trolling slow or fast?

Is this the technique I have heard on crappie masters referred to as bottom bouncing?

    benfl,
I don't really know what the technique is called. It was one of the only ways I figured I could cover a lot of area and know for sure that my jigs were getting down to the fish I was marking especially when I hit 32' in some areas of the channel. I didn't have a barrel swivel on either. I just tied the egg weight to the end of the line, then made the two different loop knots a couple feet up the line with either minnow or jig. It worked for me but unfortunately the fish weren't biting. I was trolling about .6-.9 and would drop all the rigs to the bottom and leave one close to it, bring one up a couple feet, bring the other up a few more feet until I figured I had a good amount of depth covered. I didn't really have any problems with the line twisting either.

Normally when I've been trolling I just use one or two 1/16th oz jigs and sometimes a #7 split shot on if I wanna get deeper. I'm just ready for the fish to turn on though and see which way works out better.
