    Default transome wedge

got rid of my old boat and put my motor on another boat.
Problem is angle of the new transome,I cant tilt/tuck the motor in enough towards the transome to get the bow down where I want it.Instead of a jack plate I was wondering about a wedge as I dont need to raise the engine or adjust trim or the tilt ,as the motor has trim & tilt. I just need to be able to tuck it in more. Anybody ever use one? Ideas? Or would I be better to go ahead and just get a manuel jack plate? Big differance in price between a wedge and the jack plate.

If you "tuck" the motor in, will this NOT raise the bow???
Need to go out on a trial run and move the motor back and forth to see the effects of trimming.

fellows,I am looking at either another jack plate or a motor wedge,I have had jack plates in the past but never used a motor wedge and was asking about them

    flycaster..
i have trim n tilt, I need to trim it in more ,I cant get the bow down enough.................dont need the bow to go up any further
tuck it in towards the transome lowers the bow (motor tilted in)
trim it out away from the transome raises the bow

I've got a set of wedges I used on a boat 5 or 6 years ago. I think they are about 1" on the fat side, tapering to about 1/8". If you would be interested, I could send you a picture. Are they worth $12 or $15 shipped to you?

Maybe I'm way off base but I think your going about your problem backwards !!!
    In your post you said,
    "flycaster..

tuck it in towards the transome lowers the bow (motor tilted in)

I have always trimed the motor in (lower unit close to transom) to get the boat up on plane (bow up). Then when I get the boat up on plane I trim the motor out (lower unit away from transom) for control (bow down).

If what I'm reading is right and you add a wedge to get the motor closer to the transom. The first time you crack the throttle on that motor, the bow of that boat is gonna stand straight up in the air, and you will be in for one wild ride.

If the bow will not trim down at cruise, you have either a weight to horse power problem. Or you better start checking your transom to make sure its not flexing under load.

I could be wrong, but from what I'm reading something don't sound right.

    Just my 2 cent worth.

you trim your motor down closer to the transome which pops you up and over on take off. After you pop over you start trimming your motor up to raise the bow where you want it.(Exactly what you said is right)
There is nothing wrong with the boat vs horse power,as a matter of fact it is right at max power and the boat is new.Been sitting in my Dads garage for the past few years......he bought it new and it has never had a motor on it.
It is an all welded aluminum bass boat with no plywood
The motor as it sits dont give me enough bow down running in rough water to suit me,so I want to lower the bow
The transome wedge should achive this because it is wider at the top and tapers so you can trim in more.Where your transome angle is whatever, my transome angle isnt enough to suit me......that is why I asked about a transome wedge, they are a heck of a lot cheaper than a jack plate. It came last evening ...putting it on today .Again your right about the weight,Im light on the front and there isnt anything that can be done about that, but thats why they make wedge plates and also to a degree jack plates to compensate and to fine tune a boat without going to and useing a wale tail
    type fix.
But there is more to it than just weight/motor problems. Transome angle along with boat bottom configuration etc etc etc and a ton of other things all have something to do with it
    Thanks

FYI, put the wedge on yesterday ( a 5 degree wedge)
Yesterday afternoon had a decent chop on the water, tried it out.
It gave me the right amount of tuck and ran perfect, I got the bow down where it was driveing thru the chop instead of on top of it beating my brains out.
