That bait you have in that pic is a perfect start. Bass fishing is same, just downsize and fish way slower. When you think your fishing slow enough, slow down some more. 1/32 down to 1/80oz jigheads with 1" baits will get ya bit. Blacks and natural colors work well for me. Instead of flipping around pads and dense weeds you dip a tiny jig in every hole you see with a long jig pole. Fish banks and cover just the same. They are all predators and feed in same areas. But when you find a good hole there may be 50 fish in a 5' circle vs 1 bass. Oh and you will catch bass on the micro stuff too. I use mostly sliders, 1" tubes and the Bobby Garland Itty Bitty slab slayers the most. Others will have different baits and heads they like but those work for me. Welcome aboard and good luck with the addiction once you get going. Way more fun than beating the banks to a froth for 6 or 7 good bites a day.

Welcome aboard. What Huntinslabs said is hard to add to. The game folks sprayed the floating weeds in the river so don't waste your time there for another week or two. I've gotten some good ones lately.

huntinslabs gave you some good advice. In addition to that, check out page 12 here:
