I never seen so many baitshops that dont sell crickets as around here. I only know of 2 around here that sell them and they are way far out the way for me. Usuallly dip weeds for grass shrimp or buy worms. The dang pet stores dont even carry maggots.

I've learned the hard way. I try to keep current bait shop telephone numbers in my phone and give them a call the day before I head out to see how they're stocked. The hardest-to-find bait for me is grass shrimp in the summer and crappie minnows in the winter.

There is a directory, online, of live bait wholesellers. The ones in your part of the state might be helpful in finding retail bait resources in your area. We sold them at our fish camp many years ago and just like worm beds if you are going to be using them often, and have the room, a cricket box isn't that hard to construct. Just need an indoor space, keep the ants away, cardboard egg flats (bedding), dry oatmeal (for feed), and plenty of clean water for them. And a bulk buy should last for a good while.
Pass the "Sportsman Baton" on before you're gone, promote values for others to hunt and fish upon.
