Has anyone ever tried to actually fish the shore line in Lake Susan? Well, I tried yesterday and got my butt kicked. Those fallen trees are bears with the meanest teeth. They reach out and get you every time. You should go fish there against the bank if you enjoy cursing and bleeding. Also, If you are in the market for some nice new jigs, go check out all of the trees in the lake near the shore. They have at least 25 of my jigs!
On my way home, I really felt like someone had whipped my ass. I ended up catching about 8 crappie, all 10 inches and about a half lb. each.
Not excited about doing that again, ever.

yeah it was one of those days for me too. i went to a lamaze class with my wife, after that im glad women have kids so i dont have to. anyway, it got out early so i went back to sante fe for a couple of hours. when i was putting in, i messed up something in the gear box in my transmission or either the cable that changes gears. my truck will not go into park now. after i backed in, i drove up to park my truck and trailer, that's when i found out. i figured since the boat was in the water i mind as well fish. i had to put it in neutral and put the e brake on so it diddnt roll into all the other trucks at the landing. i tried putting in into first, but if its not in neutral or park the key wont come out of the ignition. i tried to fish but it bothered me the whole time i was out on the water, especially since i just put a brand new transmission in it back in December. i called it a day after a hour, caught 4. when i went to load my boat i had to ask someone to sit in the cab and hold the brake. embarrassing!
I hope you can get it fixed without too much of a problem.

Crap, that is much worse than losing some stinkin jigs. Sorry man, and I hope you get your truck back to fully functional.

Luke,
I primarily fish topwater or shallow sub-surface around the fallen trees. I sent you a PM.

CrappieLover, tryed lake David in groveland after reading your thread during the week. First thing I did was back to far into the water and drop my trailer wheels off the back of the ramp, got hung up and had to snatch it to get out. Thats when I discovered that I had bent my rim so bad it popped my tire. Had no luck with the fish either. As far as gigging in Lake susan. I use a small "beetle spin" spoon with my gig, it helps it ride over the sticks. I also fish with 10 Lb. test, when I snag up I just grab the line and pull the hook open.
Johnny,
I am very sorry that happened to you at Lake David. I didn't realize the ramp dropped off like that. I actually went back on Thursday and caught another 31 fish....same split too. I caught 14 specks and 17 bass in the pads near the shoreline. I caught them all on small jigs, no live bait. Let them go again too.
I appreciate the feedback on Lake Susan too. I'll make it up to you another day. Hopefully I won't lead you to another catastrophe.

You are clearly a brave man.
Lake Susan is LOADED with wood around most of its shoreline unless your a lucky land owner (The east side houses and their back yards are sweet shorelines and private)
Be careful blazing a trail around its shoreline, we saw a few smaller gators finding their way out and warming up on the shore this past weekend (very small 2-3 feet)
I wouldnt even troll Susan let alone cast, unless I had litewirehooks tied on.
To catch a few and survive ....... is STUD like![]()
There is certainly something in fishing that tends to produce a serenity of the mind.
Get some jigs with sickle hooks and some sufix 6 or 8 lb. line and you can straighten out the hook four or five times before you have to "lose the jig"![]()
