I got a hall pass to go speck fishing Friday. The weather looks good, sunny, high around 70-71, light northwest winds around 5-7 mph.
I can go pretty much anywhere within two hours of Jacksonville so I appreciate any recommendations on where y'all think they'd be biting.
I was thinking Newnan's Lake near Gainesville but I'm wondering if shad seigning operation going on there has put the kibosh on the speck fishing in Newnan's.
Thanks
How about fishing Hampton or Sampson(good bass lake). As far if they are biting at Hampton, I haven't heard anything. As for Sampson, I talked to a buddy of mine who fished there last week. He only caught around 10, but they were all good size. He caught them drifting minnows with the wind in the middile of the lake. Here is link to the water depths for lake hampton(http://lakewatch.ifas.ufl.edu/Revise...radfordMap.pdf
) cut and past it into your search engine. Good luck on Friday!
I have heard that Newnan's is a bad choice lately. If I were traveling to the Gainesville area, I'd have to check out Lochloosa/Orange Lake. They seem to have some real nice crappie there. Call the local bait store and ask about recent catches.

I'm going to lochloosa tomorrow, be there at 630 sharp

I would be a go for Sampson or the Stark area. I'll take all visable change from the dashboard holder.
Well, I am going to try Lochloosa in the morning. I have never fished it before and the winds seem to be light enough I can handle it in my rig.
Looks like the winds will begin out of the northwest then swing around to the northeast in the afternoon so I guess I'll head north and fish outside the weed beds up that way unless anyone has any better idea. Like I say, I've never fished Lochloosa before.
Question: I will be heading south on U.S. 301 so is there any place along there where I can buy minnows? I hear there's a bait shop called Lochloosa Harbor but don't know where it's located. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Lochloosa harbor just look for the sign andparking lot full of trucks. I'll be in a green z71 with a Mississippi crappie.com sticker on back window pulling a silver G3 boat. If ya see me give me a shout and I'll try to help you
