Thanks again great info! My trip is planned for Sat of this week. Forcast calls for high of 65 and a low of 39. I have no fish depth finder so no way to tell what the water temps are. Is there a way to find water temps without this equipment? VietVet, Thanks for your service! You mentioned that when the water temps warm they will start making preperations for the bed I assume that with the mid to upper 40s the past couple days that the water has warmed a little. If the males are fanning the beds that should put the bigger females on structure near by correct? I guess what I am asking is do you guys think they will be shallow or deep? Again thanks for all the help.
Jboat, I just noticed you are almost 200+ miles north of me.
Trying to predict if they will be shallow or deep in the water your going to fish, would be like stalking Santa Claus. The only advice I would give you is, go fishing, have fun, and try to learn something each trip. Don't ever tell the Crappie where they are suppose to be......you will find them where THEY want to be
There is no such thing as "not biting", on any body of water, on any given day, at any given time there are fish that will bite, either from hunger or a offensive/defensive reaction.... you just have to find that place.
Retirement is wonderful. It's doing nothing without worrying about getting caught at it.
Well Saturday turned out great! I took my friends youngest boy (firstTime fishing)and my daughter out. Hit the water areund 7:30 AM. I followed the advise of the folks here and two nice guys at the bait shop. Ended up finding a few fish. All were caught in 15' of water using live minnows just off the bottom. Total tally for the day was 6 crappie, two small bream and one pickrel(sp). I grew up fishing florida waters and have never seen these pickrel. I thought they only inhabited northern waters. I tell ya I learn something every day. The kids had a great time and I did too. Plus I think i got a new fishin buddy outta the deal. Thanks a ton for all the help I will post up pics soon.
