    Smitty:

Call Garrard's Tackle Shop in Okeechobee. The guides there are very
knowledgeable about both bass and crappie..and don't mind giving you
a report. Good luck to your folks !

Where you getting them in the day time or nights? My Uncle was there a few weeks back and none where being caught in the mornings or afternoon best at night.
I want to head over but I dont do the night fishing anymore, too old and too much arthritus to spend out on the cold damp water at night now.
    thanks

I fish all over the big o both day and night and the night fishing has been good and daytime hasnt been so hot unless your looking for bass.I've got my limit just about every night ive fished so far and they have been big.It seems like they would be in the bushes by now but ive jiged all day over and over with little luck.

I’ve never night fished before, but Slik, it sounds like you got the night fishing thing down pat. I’m headed down to the Big O Monday for a few days – a couple of days at the north end then a couple of days at the south end. I got a couple of spots that have produced specs during the day, but I’ve decided I’m going to try the night thing for the first time. I got a couple of questions: First, what kind of lights do you use - the Styrofoam headlights or a generator? Also, would you recommend fishing deep water or near shore. Any other suggestions for a rookie nightfisher? I’ve been to Lakeport and Clewiston many times. Do you have any info on the bite there?

    Thanks, Rusty

PS: Here's a pic of the specs we caught today (Feb 20) at Lake Harney. Most on minnows, a few on jigs. Not much quantity but some good quality.

    RUSTY!!!!!!! How you been man?

I,ve been back in the speck game all winter & havent seen or herd from you til now!!! Thought you may have left town or somthing........On the night fishing thing.....Just get you about a 100 watt inverter & a couple clamp-on light fixtures.....the utility ones with the 10 or 12 inch reflector.........put low wattage flourescent bulbs in them & youre set........camp them babys to the gunnel of the blue beast,....set a few minnows out in the glow, & get the gaff ready cause the specks YOU catch will shred the average net!!!

Its great to know you're still around, & I hope our paths cross somewhere on the water
