I'm up that way regularly and have been hearing lake is slow. Must be cold water. Heard fish are in Murphy's Creek. Intend to find out later this week.

I fished Murphys creek a week ago for only one decent fish. The guy at Georgia Boys told me he had a couple staying over the weekend. They fished two days in the creek and did nothing. Their last day they went to the lake and made a decent day of it. Didn't say how many fish or what size or where on the lake. Sounded like nothing spectacular only better than the two previous days.

Fish in the river were doing well until the cold weather in early January. I've got a place on Dunn's Creek and hear the reports from several people in the neighborhood. Most report drifting/trolling Crescent with only a couple of fish a day lately. One report last week said crappies were in Murphy's just inside of Dunn's. Didn' get a chance to check it out but will try to fish there later in the week. I hope Crescent will produce like last year as soon as this weather warms- hard to make the early morning run to Crescent when it is 38 degrees! Even the catfish off the dock have been slow lately!
I'm new to this forum but hope to meet and fish with some of the guys. I fish Lk Monroe and the area from Crescent down to Rodman. Will let you know if I hear of anything popping.

Welcome aboard goneagain4. Good bunch of folks posting here. The area you described sounds like where I got my fish. Marked more there in the morning but no other biters. Later I marked more at the other end of Murphy's but didn't drop on them. I was just scouting by that time. I'm new to this freshwater fishing. Normally fish saltwater, but looking for something to do this winter. I want to try Rodman, any advice?

Heard today that most of the fish in Murphy's are deep- couple guys fishing in the 20' holes!
I went through the lock into Rodman about 2-3 weeks ago. Wind was blowing so hard we had to stay in the canal as the lake was ROUGH even in my Carolina Skiff 198 DLV. Plan to go back to Rodman as soon as the water warms. It's about 30-40 minute ride from the house so have to plan entering when the lock opens and air temp is warm enough for the ride. There were lots of stumps in the lake area, even had to be real careful in the channel through the lake. Actually, the stumps are floating trees and the bases are 1.5-2ft in diameter! The lockmaster said a lot of fish are caught on the lower end of the lock but we were not lucky that day. Outnumbered- you live up in the Dunn's Creek area?

    Default Murphy's creek

The fish I marked were deep. Caught mine in 17' water. The ones I marked later in the day were on a bend in excess of 20 feet deep. Those fish marked around 12-15' I think. I've never been on Rodman Lake. Did a drive-by last year without the boat just to locate the ramp. The access closest to me is below Palatka off 19 on Rodman Dam Road. Sounds pretty much like an idle speed area? I guess you go in at another access on the south end or west side? Is that where the lock is? I'm about 55 minutes away from Georgia Boys. We live a few miles north of St Augustine across the coastal highway. That makes Trout Creek, Dunns Creek area, Crescent and Dead Lake and Rodman the closest for me to crappie fish. I just took this speck fishing up last year right after the good bite on Crescent. Caught a few, but it was mostly over by the time I got some tackle together. Come April-May I'll be after the redbass and trout around St Augustine with top-water plugs. The larger she-trout can be had at that time with alittle luck and if the wind lets up.

Well, I went up to go fishing and do some chores yesterday. Got the chores done but too cold and WINDY to fish. Came back to Orlando today. Next week will do it again.
The canal from Rodman to the St John's is on the very east (north)end of Rodman. If you were looking straight from the dam the canal to the lock would have been a mile and a half or so at about 2 o'clock. I'd take it slow from the lock to the channel because of the stumps. Google map shows it real well. The channel through Rodman runs east-west for quite a ways then turns and heads south down through the Ocklawaha. From Rodman to the lock is probably 3 miles or so, then from the lock to the St Johns it is about a mile.
I'll be back up to the creek next week. If you get over that way give me a shout. Hopefully the warm weekend will get the bite started and if it does I'll give you a post.
