Default will be in the area for this event

    Hi,

I am new to this forum. I will be in Tavares from Feb 25th to Mar 2nd. I am coming to florida to spend the week fishing with my father and uncle. I am definitely interested in this. I didn't read too far in on the previous threads so I didn't hear about the fish fry. This sounds like a lot of fun, do you guys do this regularly? Also is this a tournament or just goin out to catch a bunch of fish and have a fish fry enjoy some sun?

We try to have a "slabfest" each month during the "crappie season".
We are a bunch of "rag-tag fishermen" IF I may use that term lightly.
We vote on where we will fish and when we will fish.
We are NOT a tournament type of event, just we get together to MEET, GREET, EAT, and tell fishermen stories. We have two certificates, one for the largest fish and a second for the heaviest 7 fish caught. These certificates are passed on each event.
On the sign-up forum every person agrees to bring something for the table and we clean the fish caught and fry the fillets.
We are always open for new fishing lakes in the area, with someone to coordinate the the arrangements for securing the picnic area.
Any other questions, comments are welcome.

Sounds great! This will be a nice break from the Connecticut weather for me. I'm looking forward to it. So is there a time schedule along with this event? I didn't see one after returning to the Feb 13th thread. I told my dad about it and he's all sorts of excited! He started telling me all sorts of fishing stories about fishing for crappie and white perch from about 25 years ago, he cant wait to get down there. Me either!

Some of us will be launching our boats from Hickory Point at about 7:00 AM.

click on link for map to Hickory Point (I KNOW IT SAYS UNSUPPORTED BROWSER but it works)
Fishing will take place ANY WHERE on the Harris Chain of Lakes, you can launch anywhere you prefer.
We will meet back at Hickory Point, weather you arrive by boat or by vehicle, doesn't matter. Weigh-in will be at 1:00 PM.
Hickory Point has a nice boat dock area to tie up at, if you plan to come by boat and leave by boat. Clean restrooms are also available.
Bring your catch, largest and heaviest 7 are eligible for BRAGGING rites and a chance to become caretaker, until the next slabfest, of one or both of the special certificates, which were made by one of our illustrious "members".
Fish will be weighed, pictured, filleted and enough fried for all to partake in a meal along with the trimmings which will be provided by the whole gang.
A list of picnic items are on the first posting, just leave a message here on this thread of what item/items you will bring and I will add your name to the associated item on the list. That way not everyone will bring the same thing. Items can be store bought or homemade

    Gentlemen,

I am rather new to this site and crappy fishing...I am local to most of you (Ocala) and think I would like to attend your slabfest event. My primary fishing partner is my wife and we generally fish for bass, but love the idea of learning something new and different. So if the weather is good enough on the 27th for my 16' Carolina Skiff, the wife and I would like to join you.
