Thread: Poppin' Corks

I doing some reading online the other day about using poppin' corks for spec fishing... and there's not too many write-ups about it but there are some.

One in particular said it was one of the most popular methods used in his area and always produced good numbers. Was just kind curious if anyone's tried this method of spec fishing? I've always used the standard minnow, bobber sit and wait.

I think we're going to give this a try out in Duval Island this weekend with the weather being real cool - see what we can bring in...

I think someone was talking about it on a post called "Was wondering" on 10-21. They said you can tie a jig and use a float and have like 18' of line and then pop it for the same length and the jig along with the float does the attracting

Hmmm... that's an idea. I was kinda thinking about tying up a couple of my Cajun Thunders that we use out here in Ozello and seeing about those. Same principle i suppose...

I also broke down and bought a big tub of Gulp Alive! 3" Minnows. After reading countless awesome reviews from BPS, Cabela's and Gander Mtn websites I was convinced to at least try it out. I'm hoping with a little finesse with those cajun thunders I can pull a few nice slabs outta there. :D

ive used those cajun thunders for a couple of years now for specks. the pros are they draw a little more attention bc of their rattle, and you dont need weight under the cork because the brass ones are pretty heavy and bc they are weighted it allows the bait to fall slower. the cons are the splash on the throw, they dont always go vertical sometimes the lay horizontal on the water, and the biggest con is you have to tie them into the line which stops you from adjusting the level in a second. if you want to change the level you have to tie a new knot, which gets old quick. but if they arent bitting a possible pros outweigh the cons.

that is pretty much the only way guys fish up here...but we fish it anywhere from 2ft deep to 12 ft deep...works alot better then just v.jiggin but thats my own .02

awesome, will do - we didn't get a chance to get out over the weekend, too much stuff going on, but between turkey hunting this weekend im sure we'll make it out. :D

Awesome, thanks for the advice. I know whatcha mean about not being able to adjust the depth... sucks

You could create a couple different pre tied length on some snap swivels and also with different color jigs.
