Thread: Lake Howard / Winter Haven poor

Had a long hot day on one of the largest lakes on the Winter Haven chain of lake. Tight line trolled 2 Green/Chartreuse tube on 1/16 oz road runner jig heads and 2 Pink/Pink 1/16 oz Ron's Jigs (on my end of the boat). My father in law had an assortment on. I fished my jigs at approximately 5' to 6' deep and on average we were in 9' of water. We had picked up fish on other trips from down by the McDonalds and outside the canal to Lake Cannon. We started at McDonalds and trolled about 3 hours at a fast pace, which was productive on Hachenenha the week before.

I caught a 2 1/2lb Nile Perch on one of the Pink Ron's Jigs. My father in law caught a small speck on a red and green tube. I got a few hits, but missed whatever it was nibbling at the road runners.

The heat was crazy high. We quit by 10am, with the poor fishing.

Sunk three brush piles in lake howard. Afer fishing them I realized that lake howard is full of dinks. I caught 15 on one pile. Lake cannon is much better. Seems like most peple fish haines and rochelle.

Do you live there by Howard?

I live in Auburndale, and my fishing buddy lives over off Recker Hwy. We haven't fished Cannon this year, but based on the reports in the Ledger the only place that people are catching is Kissimmee chain.
