Default A Great day on the Alligator Chain

This past weekend Dad and I took the boat over to the Alligator Chain just outside St. Cloud. We had a great time on the water but only managed to put 12 specs on the boat by 11 am it was to hot and we decided to load'er up and head home. At the boat ramp a couple old timers in a john boat asked how we did. We told them our numbers and to our suprise they had told us they caught over 30 and the day before 50. I was a little baffled but also encouraged. I knew we were on the fish but our technique needed tuning up for the deep holes in the lake. So, Today I took off work. I was at the bait store by 5 am and on the water at 5:45am. I went to the other side of the lake that dad and I hadn't fished and BINGO! The fun was on! I was steady catching fish all morning and had a limit (25) by 10:30. No real big ones but most average between 1/2 and 3/4lbs. 3 were over one pound. After I caught my limit I managed to cull a few of the dinks, But for some reason the fish were not lasting that long in the live well so I kept what I had and did the catch and release thing the rest of the morning. I may have caught 50 fish today and was excited to be in the zone! Here are a few links to some of the pics from today. The batteries died on the digital camera so the camera on the phone had to do.
Tight lines and Keep your bait wet!

I was fishing in 14 to 20 feet of water with my baits between 10 and 12 feet down. The target was bait pods and grass clumps. Trolling speed was about .40 to .50 mph

Very nice catch B8fish. Haven't been out for a while, but the Alligator chain seems to do well during the summer. Some of the best Crappie I have seen come from there. Hope to see you out there some day.
