Default Lake Arbuckle

Lady's and Gents, I'm from Ohio,(please don't hold that against me) and i used to come down to central Florida to the town of Frostproof where my brother lives during the winter. He hooked me up with an older fellow that lived on Lake Reedy but never fished it.He always took me over to lake Arbuckle and i swear we never got skunked. We always came home with specks (crappie to us up north) and big ones most of the time.I was just wondering why do I never hear anything about Arbuckle on this forum. It always produced for us early as november and as late as march.Anybody?

Post Lake Arbuckle

Probably because that lake is now an official gator lake. I think all the captured problem gators for Highlands County get put into that lake. LOL I like to fish Arbuckle Creek better. I haven't even fished Arbuckle Creek in a long while. The drought is still ongoing here in Highlands County so the fishing is not very good on the low water level bodies of water. The water bodies that are fed by a water source are better but we badly need rain.

Not unless he tied a rope around your waist and tossed you out there a few times. The lake probably wasn't always the dumping lake for problem gators but it has been since I've heard about it anyway. At least that is what a lot of local folks around here have told me about that lake.

Default Arbuckle

Actually Dixieangler, the ole guy(82) told me the same thing, that it was for wayward gators. We only had one incident were a gator was headed for the boat.I ask what should i do, and he said if he gets to close i'll smack him with an oar and if that don't stop him, well he just patted his left shoulder.I didn't get it at first, then it finally came to me, he was packin heat! I never saw the gun but the bottom of his boat had a wooden floor, kinda like slats and i looked down between them and sure enough there were empty shell casings. He never threw me out of the boat but i dang near jumped out when the Space Shuttle did its double sonic boom over the lake. Scared the beejeebers outa me.
As i understand it the eastern side of the lake is the Avon Park bombing range and the western side is some sort of game preserve or wildlife refuge and thats why they dump all the gators there.Anyways i'm not going to spend another winter up here.I plan to be back on Arbuckle this coming winter and may look into buying a small house down there around Frostproof.
