Question Jacksonville? Anyone?

I am from Arkansas, and grew up crappie fishing regularly with my dad. I am 22 now and have been stationed in Jacksonville for a little over 2 years. i have been too busy with work, but am now getting some time to fish. Everyone says I will like salt water fishing, and I have tried it some but I just want to catch some crappie. Ive seen a few other posts from Jax with no replies on where to fish. Is there anywhere close to Jacksonville to catch crappie? Im going to try black creek this weekend if I get a chance. I dont have a boat/motor/trailer, but I just bought a canoe so I am not limited to bank fishing anymore. Thanks!

Try Sampson lake just outside Starke in Bradford County. I lived on Sampson for eleven years and the crappie (specks, they call them) is pretty good. You can fish it in your canoe also. Find the inlet to the Sampson river and fish it.
Take SR100 north out of Starke off US301. Look for a sign for the Slab. Its a bait shop/bar on the lake. They can help you with how and where to get in the lake.

What about Crosby and Rowell (Lakes, near Sampson), Found a site that said they were good for crappie. I didnt get to go last weekend but will be sure to make time for a trip to starke this coming weekend. Thanks for the info.

Crosby is good. Rowell has very dense hydrilla growth, or at least it was when I was there. Don't forget to look at the lakes in Alachua County also.
Good luck.
