Default Sat Fishin

Well;
Guess this is goodbye.
No more crappie, no more Specs.
Went this mornin and gathered up my trot line, got three med bullheads, had a nice channel cat on but something wanted it more than me, there was just a head and backbone left.
Fished a bit yesterday afternoon when I set out the trotline, only got three little bitty bluegills, threw em back.
After gathering up the trotline this mornin, I fished around a bit, NADA, not even a bite.
So, I'd like to say to everyone, it was a great year for me, special thanks to John (tjj) for all the teaching and knowledge, and all the new friends made/met.
This is probably my last post here on Crappie.com till next Nov/Dec.
From here I move to Catfish1.com for a couple weeks, then back to salt and my old home over there, Inshore-fishing.com.
In parting I leave a few pics I took yesterday and this morning.
Have a nice day,
Danny

shoot its jsut now getting time, I would rather fish the heat of the summer or the cold of the winter than I would anytime. I catch more and better fish then than I do in any other time of year, you just have to do a different approach. Anyway best of luck to you

I fish specs all year long. Dad and I caught over 60 in the tourny on Lake monroe on Saturday. We got out fished by most everyone, but man what a great day on the water. It took over 10lbs to win and several fished was near the 2lb range. I would rather catch a spec over a slimy catfish anyday! Hope you guys don't give up and just try a different aproach. John's lake is up next month for FCA. So get in gear and go get 'em!

Default Monroe report

B8fish,
It sounds like Monroe was a great tournament and you had to be really dialed in to catch the right quality of fish. Details? Rigging, baits, depth, speed? I'd like to try the same approach on Harney because my catches can't compare this time of year.

Hey 309,
Its been a fun year too. I might be headed over to inshore-fishing.com as well as and learn a little about red fishing. So I might see you on I'll keep the same handle as this as long as no one makes fun of me.

B8fish,
If you can share any secrets to summertime fishing like Dan I would like to try it on a couple places too.

Thanks

Right now we have found out that some areas are still having fish spawn. Rule of thumb: Early spawning fish will spawn deep. Late spawning specs will spawn shallow. The best fish were in 2 and 3 feet of water. And remember...Crappie follow crappie, those that have spawned out will still follow the fish that havent. I had to be reminded of all this on Saturday, when we couldn't get a big bite to save our lives. I should have figured it out when we caught fish in the 4 and 5 feet range. I should have moved in and fish 2 and 3 feet range or out and fished 6 and 7 feet range. Summer fishing is the same way. The fish will pattern in the deep and move in or out according to bait fish. Crappie are like Pirana without teeth. They will ravage a bait pod in a day. Find bait and you find fish in the summer.
