Default I'm back, Fished St Johns Thursday 4/4

Sorry for the late post. Guess I havent been doing too much of anything these days besides working. But my buddy talked me into going out last Thursday 4/4. Since I really didn't know where the bite was I went to the one place you can catch them all year, the St. Johns River! Put in at Mullet Lake around 8 and ran up Lemon Bluff and saw a lot of action on the water but nothing was hitting. Weather was great though so didn't matter we weren't catching anything. Finally told my buddy I think I know where they might be. Fished there once before with Dan and Danny. So pulled up and a boat was already there but we parked down a little and got a couple three quick slabs in the boat. Then the farther down boat got up and offered his spot to us cause he had to run so we pulled up and caught 6 more pretty quickly. Sorry No pictures. The area is filled with trees and is 8-15 feet deep with some current. Good place for slabs year round. Water was getting pretty warm. I think I am going to try this spot again next weekend.

Hope everyone else is catching!

Default Good Job

Nice job finding some specks, its not been quite as automatic lately. I caught some April 1, but I've been predominantly bass fishing since then. Later that week I was bass fishing the Lemon Bluff area and watched some speck fisherman sitting on one of the best spots on the river and never saw them pull one in. All that action you saw on the surface was probably bass chasing shad. These are the baitfish shad, not the big American shad that run upstream from the ocean to spawn. The bass have been chasing shad and I've been chasing the bass...keep a rod with a rattletrap on it to cast into the melee. The shad are concentrated and spawning and its incredible how many are in an area. If you see 100 herons and egrets on the bank and the dimples and bubbles on the surface then get that rattletrap rod in your hand. Haven't yet found any specks feeding on the shad, but I'm sure the big ones can make a meal out of 'em.

How did your tournament go? Yeah I had a crawdad rattletrap but I think I needed a shad one on that day. All bass guys I saw on Thursday said they slayed them so must of been a good day. I have a funny story about one. I guess they ran out of gas on their boat but they used their trolling motor to go from Lemon Bluff to the 46 bridge. Said went through all 3 batteries.

My old fishing bud is coming down from Canada and he'll want to go after bass so maybe I'll be reaching out to you Dan. Thanks

Hi Chad;
Was wondering what happened to ya, haven't seen any post from ya, etc.
Myself, I haven't been out in a couple weeks, had to go to Kentucky, and have been back a couple weeks, but just ain't gotten the chance yet, too busy, etc...
Goin to the big "E" Friday morn with co-worker, tjj and I will probably return there Sat morn.
If we don't do much of anything, I think he's ready to go back to saltwater, I got a few fishin trips for catfish I got to do, then I'll probably be returning to salt too.
Spring mullet run is slowly beginning.
Later.........
Danny

Danny,
I might see you tomorrow morning at the ramp. I've been curious to see what the cool down has done to the trolling bite on the lake. Four or five hours then I'm in to work.
