Preparing for the tourney

Picked up tjj this morning, headed off to the pond with a mission in mind.
We been thinkin bout doin that lake Monroe tournament coming up in a few weeks, decided today to start layin down the groundwork.
Got to secret spot #1 and started doin some trollin, Bam got three right off the bat ! Then, nothin for the next couple hours.
Change up tactics, head for another part of the lake, utilizing old forgotten method of teaser jiggin with 14 ft B&M poles trailing bubble gum crank baits, Bam ! pulled in total of ten within an hour, largest was 13.5 in.
Due to someone having to "GO HOME" cause of having to work tonight we had to cut it short.
We feel we found the sweet spot of the lake but, need further research for sure, will be back.

What we was really wonderin was what does a "Stumpknocker"
look like, according to the above info, it is either/both a warmouth and shellcracker. We definitely caught a Redbreast, I'll take a pic of it before I clean em.

Thanks for all the great information on the different species, I'm still learning them for sure! It sounds like you had a successful day pre-fishing for the tournament. Don't give away all your secrets! Did you launch from 46, downtown Sanford, or at western end off 17/92?

Western end off 17/92, traveled counter clockwise around Pwr Plnt and on to East side, then continued on around to Marina. John got out and caught a cab back to truck/trailer and came back where we exited and came home.

A stumpnocker has a greenish blue tint and a few pencil lead size dots behind its gils, looks nothing like a shellcracker or warmouth. Typically small fish found in running water near wood. Ours around here, do not have any red coloring as described in the spotted sunfish description.

Sounds like you had the right plan going on. The part that is different for me is I have never fished on lake monroe POST SPAWN! I have a good idea on what I want to do but am going to have to track the fish over the next couple weeks. I hope you fish with us. It will be a great time to start with the club. I plan on fishing Sat. or Sun. there. I will be fast trolling to locate these fish and then work on them from that point on. I hope I don't have to break out the jiggy-bobbers, and vertical jig with strike indicators.

The lake limits is I4 bridge to the north and the mouth of lake jessup and lake jessup to the south. I think you said thats in the area you guys fished. I will be there on Saturday. We are longlining from the Sanford marina to the I 4 bridge and then heading home. If you see a big black tracker in the middle of the lake stop by and say hi! Tim
