Do any of you jig fisherman ever use a jig under a slip cork in the pads. Seems like a little ripple in the water surface would make a nice little movement for the jig. Don't know, so was just asking. I am going to start trying jigs more often this season. Seems like a lot more economical way than minners. Let us know if you have ever tried this.

I jig 95% of the time the other 5% is when the wife is with me and she wants to drown minnows.
I never use a bobber with a jig and contrary to popular belief,I catch most of the specs bouncing bottom and lifting it up a ft or two off the bottom on the shady side of the pad.
I watch for them bumping the pads too
Also never saw any big advantage to putting a minnow on a jig when jigging,
but thats just me.
I use power pro line and can feel them breathe on a jig with that line

I know a lot of people don't want to give away their secrets. But a lot of not jig fisherman like myself but I have started really don't know what types of jigs to use. Like I went to bps and bought some with the hair and some jig heads and plastics. It would be great if we could get a post going helping us minnow drowners fisherman some hints. I would really appreciate it.

Me too!!! That is the underlying reason, I started this thread, trying to get some tips from some of these pros. I want to learn, I want to be a better fisherman......and I thought that was the reason for this forum in the first place. Help people catch more fish and learn how to do new things that would make it more enjoyable. Like I have said, You keep doing the same things, your gonna get the same results. I am not venting, even though it may sound like it. Just a bit flustered.
When I get back down there, I would like to go out with a few of you jiggin people to watch and learn. Shu showed me that you can catch them with a jig, but I know there are some of you out there that can outfish a minner user hands down with a jig. I just want to learn....and have a good time getting to know some of yall better.

I think up2specks might be one of the authorities on jigging. He showed me this technique back in the spring and it works. I tie these 1/16 oz jig heads with different color thread and feathers. I paint my heads, but I don't think it matters. I put the jig about 12" to 18" under a small vertical bobber and cast it into the grass line, stumps and docks. As the jig is slowly sinking the bobber lays on it's side. When the jig is all the way down the boober stands upright. Then slowly pull your line the same distance that you have under the bobber an just keep repeating it. They will hit it when it's falling most of the time. Make sure you tie with a loose knot to allow the jig to fall free. I know this isn't jigging but it's fun fishing.

See there yall, told ya there are some tips and techniques out there that will help out. Sure gonna try this. Shu told me about dropping the jig to the bottom then raising up a little under the pads and that works too. I think that if we all learn a little from everyone else, we will all be better fishermen and have a lot more fun too. Just don't forget to thank who taught you what. It will make them feel good too.

P.S. Them are some dang fine looking jigs you tie. Thanks for the tip and looking forward to using it to help put some slabs on the table for the fest.

The only technique I can add is when fishing like shorelines or river banks is I just sit on the trolling motor and cruise along at a decent speed and flip the jig under any boat dock or lay down and let it fall and pick it up if you dont catch anything by the time you pull it up move on to the next object and repeat. I let it fall to to bottom if I have enough line and then raise it slowly.
I use a 10 foot B&M pole with anywhere from 10-14 feet of line.
I have used just solid green or chartuese colors but those jigs above look pretty tasty. This is good if you have 2 or 3 boaters cause everyone gets a chance to jig and normally the guy on the back catches all the fish because the two fishing in front probably just missed it and got the fish hungry.
