What would the size and bag liment on Lake Monroe and up the S.J. river be these days on crappie? I have not been there in years.

There use to be a 12" limit for crappie on lake Monrow which may be what you remember. That restriction was removed. The state regs. now apply, which is any length and 25 crappie per person. I believe the same is true for all of the Saint Johns River ( but not positive).

Thanks, that was what I remembered. 12". But people sayed it had changed and I knew the folks on this site would know. Maybe I will give thim a try this or next weekend if I can free myself up.

Cajuntim, did you get to Monroe and if so how did you do? I'm planning on going Tuesday and filling a bucket. I'll post a report on how the bite's doing.

I did go on Sat. The water and wind were very bad. I am new to this type of fishing and not sure of were to go. I read a good place to try was the # 2 marker between the marker and land. We drifted quite a few passes with no luck. The waves got a little to much for my small boat so we came in to the bridge and river. We cought 2 smaller Specks and a large catfish. At lease we had a dinner out of the trip. Went to Horse shoe lake on Sun. Were 2 other boats there also. No one was catching anything. I left with a few catfish and a bass. No Specks.

Went Tuesday as planned---windy---and the trolling battery took a dump. Left after about 1 hour and released the 1 speckzilla we caught. Went back today with a new battery----still windy---- caught 6 keepers and several dinks. Got into a school of stripers in my favorite speck hole and had to move elsewhere. They were biting ANYTHING that went in their path. We caught around 20 (all 10" or less). Still a lot of fun catching them and nothing fights like a striper.

Sounds like you had a great time today. Maybe I will have better luck next time my wife and I go out.

Well, this is where I leave myself out in the open for all kinds of stuff. I believe that there should be at least a 10" limit nation wide. Now, now, don't get all huffy. You ain't gonna get much of anything off a 10" speck if you filet it out anyhow. Most all states have a size limit and I have seen snowbirds on Eustis keep everything they catch....even 6" ers. I want to shoot a hole in their boat when I see that happening. I was raised that a speck had to be at least 10" and will have that mindset till they put the grass on top of me. Just my personal opinion of course, but dare any sportsman to say anything agin it.....unless he has not eat in days and needs them to feed his family.

I agree dusty. The best thing that has happened to our lake (SYZ) is the 10" & 10.

The 6 crappie we kept 11" and over. We didn't keep any of the stripers.
