    Default A childhood memory...

My father and I used to go bass fishing at a local quarry. We would go at sunset and throw Jitterbugs into the darkness. Well one night we went out and pulled up to our usual parking spot and noticed an older gentleman sitting on the edge of a long dock. We struck up a conversation only to notice this fella was in the midst of getting sloshed and he had the brown paper bag and bottle to prove it. We walked a little ways down from him and commenced to fishing, his eyes following our every move. My dad let his Jitterbug fly across the water in one of those beautiful sky high arcs. Now I really don't know what this bat thought he was pursueing, but he got it. Both treble hooks buried in this rat with wings. So here's my dad, rod pointed to the heavens, reel singing like a church choir, and this bat cutting didoes in the air. The whole time this drunk is watching in total disbelief. He'd rub both eyes, slap himself repeatedly and spin in circles trying to follow that bat's path of aerial acrobatics. In his attempt to maintain constant visual contact he abruptly discovered where the dock ended and the water began. He climbed out of the water, kneeled on the rocks and began to converse with the Lord. I could'nt hear well but it was something about never drinking Vodka again. At that point he turns to my dad and says "All these years and I never knew they stocked flying fish in here! Good luck to y'all, I'm going to bed"

My father and I have been laughing about that night for 35 years!

I had an experience with a cotton mouth and jitterbug when i was a boy.
I was fishing a local pond one afternoon then i saw the snake floating on top of the water i throw the jitterbug beyond him and start reeling thinking i would pass it past the snakes face and see if it would strike.

I had to do that a couple of times on the third pass he struck at it and got hooked, now you talk about something fighting better than any fish i ever hooked. I started reeling the snake in and the closer it got to the bank the more i thought about what i was going to do when i got it in.

At that point i cut the line and let the snake go, never did do that again, but i must say it was a heck of rush while i was doing it.

    Default Another bat story!

My buddy and I fished a river for cat. We'd always get there about dark,
set up the camp and start to fish. This night we got there an hour late.
I told my buddy go and start setting up, I'm gonna throw out a line and
I'll come and help, did I mention it was a pitch black night!!
I baited up with a chunk of liver and tossed her out, I noticed there was
a kind of click on line, but didn't pay any attention to it.
My buddy got the coleman lit up and we're setting up camp, he says
to me, hey, you got one, I can see your rod jumping. I race over(without the
lantern) to see what's up. I'm reeling in and the line stops at the tip, I
try again, same thing only I hear screeching. I holler for my buddy to bring
the lantern over. With the light I saw a bat on the end of the rod. When
I casted I must have encircled his foot and when I reeled in I ran his foot
into the tip. Needless to say, he didn't go in the cooler!!
