    Default Pelicans

Me and 2 of my buddies were surf fishin, around the emrald isle NC, when a flock of pelicans flew about 30 ft over head, joklingly I threw my jig in one of the birds general flight path, I thought I missed but a couple of seconds later I flipped down the bail and felt a tugg I thought my lure had fell in the water and I was getting a bite but I realised I had hooked one of the birds . I look back at my friends and yell I got em, and took off bookin down the beans reeling in line at the same time. Finally I jerked the bird out of the sky and into the water, I reeled in the 30 lb bird and for all you liberal/tree huggers out there the bird was released unharmed, but it's still a cool story to tell

Glad you got the bird released unharmed, but the question I ponder is how did you come out on the deal? I hear those birds can be pretty mean when in a situation like that?

Try SNAGGING one with a treble hook! You have to hold it down with a towel and get out the pliers!

I got a Blue Heron from the pier at Ft. Walton Beach. It's was a nice one. 7 pounder. About a 72" wing span. He flew right into my line I had out and got all tangled up. He was released unharmed. I wonder if there is a bird catching forum.

Yah It was a pain trying to get it out LOL, we actually had to cover it's head with a towel and use fishing line to pull the hook out, he was none to happy about it either

    Default More pelican problems

When I lived in Florida, I used to go down to a bridge sit on the concrete
base and fish. One day while I was sitting there a pelican landed about
5 feet from me and just sat there. Fishing was slow, so for something to do
i started a conversation with the pelican! I called him Pete. After talking to
Pete for a while I got a bite. As I was reeling the fish in, Pete jumps down to
the water to grab the fish. In the process Pete and the fish were all tangled
up in the mono. I go down to the shore, pull up the whole mess and start trying to undo Pete. He was quite passive, I think he knew I was trying to help him. After about twenty minutes, I finally got Pete free, then I started
chewing his A-- off. I said he can have the damn fish, just wait til I get him in. Walking back up the the concrete I noticed the restaurant up above the shore, yep, the one with all the windows on that side filled with people
laughing at the fool that talks to pelicans untangle him. After I got over
the embarassament of the whole episode, I made sure no one was in the restaurant before fishing. Pete and I remained good buddies and he never
dove in after the fish again!!!
