Thumbs up Starting over is fun... in a way

This is a long story but needs to be to get the meaning.

I have been fishing since 10 years old. Now 58 yo. My family tells me I have caught over 40 different species of fish in 2 different countries. About 3 years ago I was in a very very nasty motorcycle accident. Life-flighted to a bigger city while in a coma. Docs told my family that I would not live until morning. I spent 3 days in that coma and woke up. Lost most of my memory and balance/dizziness issues have cost me most of my hobbies. I have tried fishing again. My son gives me some pointers now and then. I sure its all stuff I have taught him in years past. Here is an example. We were not getting much crappie action one day. I suddenly said hey I have an idea! Lets put a small jig on and just drop it down and wiggle it around and see what happens. My son starting laughing and I thought he thought I was crazy. I said whats so damn funny?? Dad, he said, you did not just think of that. You showed me how to do this 25 years ago but now they call it drop shotting. He then said, do you remember when I was young and we used to catch crappie and walleye pulling Wiggle Warts and Bombers behind the boat? Shoot that was 25 years ago too. Now they call that pulling cranks. Most use newer brands now. I learned things that day. 1) I used to be a decent fisherman using techniques that are widely used now. 2) I must have been successful in teaching my kids how to have fun fishing. 3) It's never too late start... or re-learn to fish. Just be sure to teach someone else along the way! Oh never-mind... all you guys here are already doing that

You are so correct. Glad you are still at the stage you can get in a boat and enjoy the fishing. Life is still good everyday.

Cool story ,I remember fishing with Donnie Gant (Roger Gant'S kin folks)While coaching at Kossuth. It's called side pulling now but had no name I ever heard then . Folks just said the way Roger and Bill Dance caught fish to be tagged for crappiethon Events .Hellbenders were the crank of choice to pull behind boat also .

Glad your still this side of the big green carpet. I bet you have a new appreciation for life. Makes one think and really appreciate what you have, even stuff that may not mean much to others. Sounds like you did a fine job raising that boy of yours.

Keep on keeping on, brother. The good lord is willing and if the creek rises we fish a little harder.
