You know it's a bad day when you drive 45 minutes to a trolling motor lake only to discover you left the battery home on the charger.
You know it's a bad day when you hook up your trolling motor to the battrey and place it on the front deck of the boat and then head down a steep launch only to see the battery slide off the deck and rip the wires out of the trolling motor.
You know it's a bad day when your buddy falls off the front deck of the bass boat and lands on your rods breaking two of them.
I realize this is an old post, but as a recent addition to the crappie.com community I have spent the last few weeks going back into the archives to read all the jewels I have been missing out on.
In particular this post, I just have to comment on and say....
Thanks to all who posted stories here. My fishing infatuation has resurfaced after a 3 year hibernation period and I have been struggling with "fishing from shore" disease while wishing on every star I had a boat. After reading these stories I am now quite content to sit on the bank with pole in hand and skip all the dead batteries/keys locked in truck/your boat just passed you on the highway stories I have just had the pleasure of reading.
You guys just saved me a ton of money
In the future may:
all your batteries be fully charged,
your windows always be down for when you lock your keys in them,
your stringer always be attached to your john boat before throwing the stringer full of fish back over the side,
all of your tires be in good shape,
all of your trailers be securely fastened to the back of your vehicle,
all of your bait and tackle be IN the boat when you actually arrive at your secret honey hole,
your licence be in your wallet, in the pants YOU ARE CURRENTLY WEARING
your parking brake NEVER fail
your plugs be installed before launch (my dad sunk his bass boat Easter morning from a plugless launch. Think God was trying to tell him something)
you react in time when that 20 lb'er decides to bite during the 5 second period you laid your rod down on the deck, pulling your rod in the water
you and your families always be safe when that summer storm rolls in from out of nowhere
and may your lines be tight more than slack.

Some of you guys might consider hiding a spare truck key on the 'outside' of the truck....preferable towards the front of the truck...so you don't get your a** wet crawling under or around your truck while it sits on the ramp with your keys locked inside.....been there...done that...glad I had a hidden key...

I worked in the automotive service industry for a few years and the first thing you do is roll down a window. Nothing sucks more than asking a customer if they have a spare key. I always roll a window down everytime I get out of the truck when the key is in the ignition. fortunately my doors wont lock when open and engine running, Chevy got that one right. Plus I rarely leave my keys in the ignition.
I never have a bad day. :D
Every day I wake up is a great day. :D
Bobber Down.
Bobber Down!
Bobber Down, Set Da Hook!
what a great way to start out the day! thanks for the stories guys...
the only story i can remember to this day is when mom was helping us put the boat in the water... I remember dad telling her just idle it home.. he was going to teach her how to run it later... well i was only about 9 and mom decides she doesnt need anyones help to know how to run the boat.,.... im saying cool at this point cause its a brand new boat dad just bought.... they have a place on the lake so it was going to be stored at the boat house nad i got to show all my friends lol...anyways... mom backs it off the trailer just fine ... and we start the "headway speed only" track back to the boat house...only mom is secretly waiting for dad to disapear from the boat ramp.... he does..and she headed out to the main lake.... well to make a long story shorter... she didnt have a clue about boats...or trim for that mater.... she hits the throtle only to find the only thing we can see is the sky..... and boom...... where she had went is only 3 foot deep and you have to idle out past the pole... when she hit the gas the front of the boat stood straight up..... cause the trim was almost trimed out for high speed running.... you should have seen dads face when we came trolling up with his new boat... broke the prop and scared the He&& out of me an mom.... she never tried to sneek the boat out for a run again lol
For the love of Kids and FISHING!
A few years back My son, dad, and me went on trip that turn bad. the lake was in flood stage about 6ft. we decided to fish the flooded trees. wind was out of the south we came to atree from the west told my son who was 12 yr,s. old at the time to hold to the tree that we where to tie up to. water temp was about 48 deg. he grab the tree to hold on to it while dad tied a rope to it. the boat drifed and my son turned lose of the tree.I put the boat back on the tree, told him this time to hold on to the tree , he did. Boat drifed again left him holding to the tree. We recused him before he got wet.
30 yrs ago my brother talked me into joining him in a tourney some guys he worked with had put together. The preparations were mighty and involved. Wake up Way before the chickens so we can be there ready and on time. Drive an hour to the famed Lake Toho in Kissimmee, getting breakfast along the way. Ice,check. Food, check. Tackle, check. Connect fuel tank.......fuel tank......2 1/2 hrs later(traffic was up by now) we connected the fuel and headed out. I haven't let him forget it yet!!! Also remind him of the 7 trips in a row that he swam before getting to complete the trip. Another story for another day.
Wake me up early,
Be good to my dogs,
and teach my children to pray.
heres a few,,,good thing b and m rods float,,,make sure the new fish baskets' bottom door is closed,,don't try to keep the boat from hitting a tree, by putting your arm between them and one time I drove 175 miles to another state, fished an hour, wind kicked up with 6 ft rollers, drove home, fished 20 minutes and the tornado sirens went off. dang storm followed us home.
My son and I were fishing lake oliphant in the boondocks. To start I broke my favorite rod while casting. We decided to leave about 9:00pm,tied up at the dock ;walked to the truck to find I locked my only keys inside. No one was around and no cell phone.Broke the door window out. Finally got loaded, but when I pulled into the driveway the trailer tire hit the culvert pipe and busted the sidewall. My son couldn't wait to tell his mom the whole story.
2 yrs ago, I 'm pulling my boat and my buddy is pulling his so we stop at the Cracker barrel halfway to Alabama from Indiana to get some grub. Well The other guy had parked alittle crooked and when we were leaving the guy riding with me had the rear door open on my Dodge quad cab, By the time I screamed stop the other truck and boat started pulling away and the trailer fender on the other boat caught that door (almost my buddy) and folded it to about 135 degree angle. I thought my yearly most anticipated trip of the year was all over!!! But Luckly we just shoved the door closed the best we could and strapped it down. The rest of the trip was abit more noisy but at least we all got to fish.
