    Default Shallow Water!!!

One of the funniest things I have ever seen on the water (although it was flat scary when it happened) was about 20 or 25 years ago. They were pumping the water all the way out of the backwater side at the Springville Puming Station (West Sandy / KY Lake), in order to dredge the channels.

The water was WAY down, so my uncle and I drove up to spend a day wading, jiggin in the buck bushes. That was about the only way to fish it, as the bottom end of the boat ramp was a long way from the water's edge.

We heard a boat crank up in the distance. Ends up, it was a feller who had put in on the other end, where I assume the water was much deeper. As we continued fishing, the sound of the boat got louder and louder, as it came closer to the area we were fishing. Before long we saw the boat, a brand new aluminum Bass Tracker, with a single occupant. This guy was standing up behind the console, throttle wide open, navigating the channel he was in.

He just kept getting closer and closer, with no signs of any intent to slow down. When we realized that this guy was about to run out of water, my uncle and I both, without a word to one another, dropped our poles and began yelling and waving our arms in the air, trying to get the guy's attention. Guess we thought that if he saw us, standing in knee deep water, he would get the point... no such luck...

He did see us, just before it was too late. He simply smiled really big, waved back, and bottomed out on the sandy bottom. That was the fastest I have EVER seen a boat go from 20 mph, to a dead stop.:D:D:D The boats driver was slammed over the console and into the floor of the boat. Everything else in the boat (cooler, tackle box, rods and reels... everything) went flying out. Luckily, other than being banged up (his knees took a pretty hard lick on the console) the driver was fine... I think his pride took the hardest beating. We helped him drag his boat off the bottom. Other than a slightly warped steering console, the boat also suffered very little damage.

Like I said at the start, it absolutely scared me to death when it happened (he was probably no more than 15 yards from where we were standing when he bottomed out), but when I think back, and picture him standing up behind that console, smiling and waving, it cracks me up!!! :D:D:D

Some operators just don't have a clue!!!

Saw a guy with 2 occupants go accross a stump field point at WOT one day and all I could do was cringe in horror!... and by sheer miracle never touched a one!!! I't was the same stumpy point that got my zinc trim tab... and I was just drifting because I knew where I was!
