i was fishing a lake here in city limits about a month ago. i usually only take my son to fish there because the fish are small (he's 3 years old) but i've fished it a few times when i didnt have time to drive out of town to my usual spot.i didnt have time to go so i picked up a stogie and thought i'd fish this town lake.when i got there there was a family there fishing minnows with bobbers and catching some small perch.i started casting a spinner with a jig on it and wasnt catching anything so i started walking down the bank trying different spots and i casted out and was kinda yankin the jig then letting it drop and than yanking again and i caught a fish so i thought. when i was reeling it in it looked like an odd colored fish and when i brought it out of the water it was a frickin goldfish and a really big goldfish at that.i accidently snagged it. i started cussing and freaking out because i dont want to catch goldfish and the dad from down the bank came over and asked if i thought that all there was in the lake was goldfish and i told him that i've caught alot of perch and smallmouth but never a goldfish before. i have no idea why there would be a big goldfish in the lake.i dont fish there anymore.i only take my son and if he catches one he would think its awesome.

My brother once caught a huge koi on an inline spinner. He was fishing a pond in a reidential neighborhood.
I would have had to try it out,I think?lol.

Ive heard of using goldfish in place of shiners. It is illegal here in florida though because they grow as big as there habitat, and if one gets lose in a lake they could take over the lake.
i spent 10 yrs in pierre. where are you?
Lake George in downtown St. Cloud used to have huge goldfish in it . True trophies. Haven't been there in 30 years, don't know if they are still there?
sorry. don't know where st. cloud is. i do miss all the quality fishing and hunting in sd though. lots of fond memories.
