I have a 1999 Motorguide Tracker Series 30 trolling motor which has a 37 lb thrust. On our last fishing trip, my son-in-law ssid that the trolling motor just started going where it wanted to. The motor was still operating but foot control was not operating. Some one told me it could be a pin sheared (but I figured that a shear pin would keep prop from turning. One guy told me it could be a keyway broken. Then another told me that perhaps a wire had come loose from the foot control or maybe a bad resistor. Can anyone help me with this one please? Thanks in advance!
Wish i could help dude but don't know much about 'em. I'm sure one of the guys here will Help you out!
You either have a broken cable or one of the cable stoppers in the foot control come out of its seat.

I had that same problem....broken cable.
Nothing better than getting out on the water.
How do I remedy the problem ? Is it something that requires a mechanic or manufacturer ?
Broken steering cable somewhere inside the housing between the pedal and the head of the motor. You will have to have a new cable ordered and installed. Its not an uncommon event with motor guides apparently. Broken ones cant be repared. Its a wire that basically snaps in half inside inside the housing and renders your pedal useless. Same thing happened to mine this last fall.
