Default Trolling motor question...

My last fishing trip, my son-in-law was operating the trolling motor from the front of the boat and he said that it just started going where it wanted to. I have a 1999 Motorguide Tracker Series 30 with 37# thrust. Does it have a shear pin or keywAY PIN THAT COULD HAVE SHEARED OR BROKE THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS? Never had this to happen? Where can i get the part? Thanks in advance !

Default Trolling motor question... HELP !!!!!!!!!

On my last fishing trip my son-in-law was operating the trolling motor from the front of the boat when all of a sudden, he said that the trolling motor just started going where it wanted to. Is there a shear pin or key way that could have sheared or broke that would cause this? The motor continued operation just without control. Any Ideas? Thanks in advance !

You either have a broken cable or one of the cable stoppers in the foot control come out of its seat.
