    Default Hummingbird 788

Been looking for a new cps/sonar combo and looking for any info from users of the new 788. Never owned a hummingbird before so want to be sure its a good unit. My old lowance that came with my boat died in less than 1 season so a bit upset with lowance products. My other older system was a eagle which worked great but its 12 years old and want a color display. I fish in minnesota so any comments on the 788 or suggestions would be appreciated. Want to stay under 600 bucks. Was looking at the 787 too.

I use a 787 C2 and have been for nearly3 years I think it does a great job. I've been looking to add a 788 CI to the front of my boat and bove the 787 to the console. No issues at all and looks great.

    Besy price I've found

The great thing about the new 788 it has 2 card slots and 3 soft key presets. It also has a 5 inch 640h X 640v color display.

I took my 788C out for the first time Saturday, and I love it. I have a 797 on the console and the 788C up front and an interlink. The dual card slot is nice, and the 50 channel GPS rec. locks on within a couple seconds. I trust this unit to show what's there more then any unit I've owned. It is awesome.

The only problem I have is vertical lines that always appear on the screen, which I assume is interference, but I haven't had time to call HB about it.

On a sidenote, I replaced my glass fuse block with a auto fuse type block I got on ebay, and my 797 runs so much better now, the images I'm getting are at least 50% clearer.

Thanks for the reply. Am going to order the 788ci tonight. Am hoping the internal antenna has good reception. Figure one less item to mess with. Never owned a hummingbird so not sure what you did replacing the glass fuse block. Why is the auto fuse type better and could you give me the exact name so I can check this out online? tnks

Well, now thinking about the internal vs external. Any reason why you bought the 788 with the external antenna? Is the external the puck that connects to the unit or does it attach to the back? Which has better reception? Sorry for all the questions.
