The 717 is a great unit to use. You can add gps to it in the future by just purchasing an antenna. To show structure better you can adjust your sensitivity, but the unit is already preset to show structure very well.

I use the 727, same as the 717 with a higher pixel count and I've not changed the factory settings. Works great, its my front eyes as the transducer is mounted on the troll motor housing. It backs up the 797si mounted on the stern.

    Thumbs up

I just upped the chart speed and sensitivity to my liking. I'm not sure about the maps as I use a Lowrance Ifinder for my GPS. BTW I love my 717.

Did you get a good deal on yours because I believe they are discontinuing that particular model. I really don't know why other than it needs a memory card slot!

It will also take a quad beam transducer if you ever wanted to run one.

I got an awesome deal on it on E-bay.Paid 138.00 shipped to my house. And then bought a gps receiver from a friend of mine for 20.00. I really like it so far. I will just hook my hand held to it if i cant load maps directly to it.
