Are there others like me who purchase expensive latest edition fishfinders with all the bells and whistles, only to set them on Auto because you don't understand them? I purchased a Lowrance LCX26cHD with GPS and found an owners manual that is way over my head. Are there on line tutorials or someplace I can get tips and advice on some of the more desirable features of this unit? Maybe it is just me, but I can't seem to get the hang of GPS and relate it to my fishfinder. I read an article in Bass and Walleye Boats Magazine about setting the Ping Speed and the Chart Speed at high settings. Has anyone tried that, and if so does it have any benefit. I am a Crappie fisherman and seem more suited to the less complicated fishfinders, but I always have to step out there and try something new. Any straightforward tips anyone can give on this unit would be appreciated.
If you search the electronics threads you may find a site that has the simulators that you can play with from your computer that way you can become savy with your new toy before going to the water.:D
go to Bennettmarine .com , and see if they make a video for your model , they make a lot of videos for depth finders , they run about 35.00, good luck
just look for your model and down load it ---play with it

Yes, it may seem overwhelming right now but try to stay on top of the frustration. Use what you know and have learned from the manual (simulator). Don't try to learn everything at once. You gotta just get out there and play with it on the water. As time goes, you will pick up on several features that apply to your situation. There will be many features that you won't need to use for your type of fishing, i.e. fish symbols, depth alarms. The only way your gonna hurt it is by ripping the ducer off the back of the boat or dropping the head. You have a unit that can do a lot for your fishing...take your time and don't hesitate to ask specific questions on forums like C.C.!!

Thanks guys. I have downloaded the emulator from Lowrance on my unit and am feeling my way around on it. By the way, can anyone tell me the difference in an SD/MMC card and an SD card? I have a 2GB SD card, but am not sure if it is the right one. The Owners Manual says my unit can use an MMC or SD card.
MMC and SD are pretty close to the same thing...MMC stands for Multi Media Content or somethin like that and i think the SD means somethin Digital...not sure...the SD cards are easiest to get hold of...same thing most Digital cameras take so you can get them about anywhere...the 2GB SD card will work perfect and you will have a ton of storage
