    Default 997 SI Settings.

I have put a 997 SI on my new (used) 692 Fisherman Ranger. I went out and played with the different settings on the SI. Chart speed, sensitivy, speed of boat, etc., can any of you Si user share some settings that best work for you. My boat is idle at 3.7 mph, to get a better image do I need to slow the idle of motor? What is the best speed for better images? Please give me any advice that would help. Thanks! CG

I played with mine for awhile and finally settled into running it with the screen color set to grey (can see it better than other colors), the sensativity at 10, chart speed at 4, and speed between 3-5 mph. I also keep my range at 70 feet to both sides so Im scanning around 140 feet total. I like to keep it around 70 because if you run it at a wider range its easy to miss things because they arent as large on the screen. Of interest, my unit wont allow me to set it much more than 130 feet to each side....the outside edges go black beyond this setting...not that I use it at that range anyway, im just saying that i dont get a good return beyond a 130 foot setting. Might be a result of the jon boat type hull i have it on.

The best speed range for SI is 3-5 MPH. The chart speed should match your boat speed to keep the image from being either compressed or stretched vertically on the chart.

If you decide to record, adjust your ping rate. If you got a small sd card, it will fill up fast. Ping rate controls picture quality.

I suggest getting a power cord and power supply and use the unit inside. Place the unit in the simulator mode and learn (memorize) the buttons. This speeds up the learning curve and builds self confidence.

I fire mine up on occasion just to "refresh" my button skills.

    Default SI setting

I like mine set to factory setting with range at 50 and keep my boat speed at close to 5 mph. I play with the setting to get a better look at things at times but for general use this works for me.

Maybe you need to turn up your sensitivity at those distances? Of course, you may loose the abililty to distinguish closer objects because they'll blend at the higher settings. I actually keep my sensitivity lower than 10 and the distance at about 50.

Thanks bttmline I appreciate this and will try using this info to get mine better set for what I am doing. I am pretty sure my sens is at 10, but don't remember where I have the chart speed. I think my ping speed is set high, but need to chenk it. I do vary my side distance depending on what I am trying to do; if searching I spread it out some, but if trying to just get a good loon under on near my boat I cut it back down some. I think that mine is also set using the something else I can't think of the name, but is for making it a better image I believe?

Going to post my new screen shots here to see what others say.

    Thanks again,
