    Default Question about GPSMAP 76S

For those of you that have this unit what are your Altimeter settings?

Altimeter Auto Calibration? On or Off
Pressure Units? inches of Mercury or Millibars
    Barometer Mode? Fixed or Variable

    Thanks

    For mine
    Altimeter Auto Calibration is ON.
Pressure Units is set on Millibars.
    Barometer Mode setting is Variable.

Features I haven't used or looked at till your post and something I might use in the future if I find a use for it.

I've always figured the altimeter would be of great imprtance if I was flying around but on the water wasn't sure how accurate it would be for something like accurately determining the lake elevation difference of a few feet one way or the other.

Not to divert your thread but I have a question about how you have your unit set up with North Up or Track Up?

I have mine set with North Up since that is how I learned to use mine and since my Garmin is set that way and I now have my Lowrance set that way also. A setting that other find confusing if they are operating the trolling motor and trying to position the boat over brush piles using my GPS. For me the only time I think this would be a problem would be on an extremely foggy day when I couldn't determine direction from land marks or the sun.

    Thanks

    Lee

Thanks for the reply Lee...I have both my 76S set for North up...It is the easiest for me....I also have started paying a lot more attention to BP...Last Wednesday I was doing pretty good and all of a sudden the fish quit biting..After a couple hours of no hits I went to the house...I looked at my GPS and saw that close to the time they quit the BP spiked big time...I don't know if this was a coincidence but I plan on finding out...Now I have one of the 76S on the BP page at all times..

I wish I was smart enough to use track up...:D I just use the arrow at the top left to see the direction I'm heading..

    Have a good week-end
