I see quite a few statments to "turn off the Fish icons" in the fish finder.
What's that do for me?
I see the little arc's. How's that better than a little Fish Icon?
Computer enhanced images means: The Computer sees targets. It log's that target into a Timer. It sees that target several times a second.
The Computer decides whether it's a moving target or just a bottle in suspension by watching for movment.
The arch's are a reflection with a Dot for nearly every cycle of Transducer. 400Khz is a lot of looks at the same target.
So why is the arch's better than the Icon?![]()
I just wish I could be better at fishing. Or maybe luckier!:D
Most of the icons they show aren't fish. The FF just measures time from pulse to return and darkens the pixel at the right spot. It puts a fish icon there if there isn't anything connecting that return to the bottom.
The transducer doesn't look at KHz. That's the frequency of the sound, but the looks happen at the ping rate. The pings are slow enough that you can hear them. They have to be because of the time it takes the pulse to travel to the bottom and back. The system doesn't do any enhancing at all, nor does it watch for movement. Everything is moving relative to the boat.
If you haven't already done it, you might want to download their emulator for the 480. Makes it nice to get a feel of the unit by using the computer instead of having to sit in the boat playing with it
