Don't think I understand all on that page but I have a question. Is Hb going to be only one with that chip or could it already be in use in the better Garmin handhelds the ones that state high-sensitivity GPS receiver such as GPSmap 76csx & etrex legend lited for $249. thanks

So is this chip physically located in the puck rather than the head unit?
    Interesting stuff.

Yep has to be in the puck thats what talks/receives with satellite. Basically U would be buying a new ant. for $199.oo & just plug it in right where present ant. is. Ok to use with 797,997, 1197. supposed to be plug & go. New ant. will not be for sale until early 2009 as per HB cust service as I already called to see if there was a waiting list & if I could get on. Nope no dice, so Heck with HB gonna just wait & first see what SLOW GPS fix is goona be.......... I am thinking now I may just want to use 997 for SI views only and buy a new Garmin or Furano system as my main units.
Yes do to my Good nature I will be sure to thank HB for the $2000.oo Enema

Apparently so Jeff. That is why Joby answered my question as an active antenna, not a passive antenna (some time back in a post here).

JAX, Plug and play my butt. I gotta disassemble my boat to get the wiring to the right place (near my xducer.). I doubt if I will spend the money. I just use my Garmin. I just ordered an extra Garmin mount this morning.

The "antenna" will not help the slow response of the GPS. Why give them another 200 bucks?

Garmin uses the SIrf III in most of their current units. They may be using this "chip set" in their new stuff. This is poop I read on the "net".

This chip set just arrived on the marked in Nov 2007. Takes time to implement it. That is why Humminbird is saying 2009.

I am not privy to any technical documentation as I can not or do not have proof of employment.... What a crop.....

I am a has been. In my day, the documentation went with the product. Like the TVs had parts list and drawings on the back cover. Remember.

Greedy bas#@$^% now. Secrecy. KGB tactics now. Hard for me to know when the putting the screw to folks now days. I look hard at it though.

Sometimes I am wrong, sometimes I am right. Hard to wade thru the bull nowadays.....
