Thread: Lowrance 522

Anyone with any experiance on a lowrance 522 gps internal ant. Thinking about getting one.

I have one on a ram mount, works great.

Which software would I have to get to see channels and depths in the lakes in ga and fl? Thanks.

I have 522 IGPS and it works great. With the zoom feature and the color LCD, if you get it adjusted right you will be able to tell crappie from other fish by the color change for thier air bladder. I used mine for two years and I have really worked with tuning the sensitivity and color scale. I know what I see when I catch crappie. The only thing is that I move mine to different locations in the boat (front) tightling and ( back)for longlining and console for searching/running, if it is a cloudy day, get too close and it will loose GPS lock signal.

Remember 1 thing when marking way-points. You antenna and transducer should be very close. So if you have your unit on the front or on the dash & your transducer is on the rear ,,, you'll be off that much. The same with map cards. This problem gets worse if you come back to your waypoint from a different direction. This unit is GREAT when mounted on the front with the transducer on the trolling motor. <*)}}}><

Still cant decide between Mapcreate '07 or Navionics Hotmaps '07. Which one would be better. What are you guys running?

Mapcreate 7 is for your PC. Navi 07 is for the 522.

Yes thanks. Finally figured that one out. Got another question. The ones with the 522, is the gps accurate enough at low speeds.5-2.0mph) or do you all have the speed sensor seperate?

On over cast days, the GPS speed can be off at slower speeds and it jumps around too much. For me, when long line trolling, speed is the most important detail. I know for a specific speed and line length/size and jig type what depth I am pulling my jigs. .5mph to .7 mph can make a difference of 6feet or more . I use a special low speed sensor made by local crappie fishing guru on my trolling motor. It is a modified transom mounted speed sensor for your depth finder with a prop attached to it. It is very accurate at low speed. Through I alot of trial/error I know exactly what depth I pull certain jigs with this speed sensor. I have been fishing the same locations as other fisherman and killing the crappie while others not doing so well. They would be using the same presentation but they could not get the right speed. Crappie Gobbler, thanks for the info. How much does this guru get for one of his speed sensors? Might have to get one to be accurate.
