Default check your transducer

Just happened to find an extra transducer in garage the other day. Went fishing Sunday and brought it with me to check mine on boat. Just so happens my transom mounted ducer was not giving very good readings compared to the new one. And my universal ducer mounted inside Motorguide is at least as good as a new Lowrance. As sophisticated as new units are you think they would be able to troubleshoot things like this.
