    Default 787c2i

I just ordered a Hummingbird 787c2i. I was wondering if the maps that were on the unit were sufficient to use or do I need to buy the Navionics (Hotmap) card. For those of you that have this unit, how do you like it? I had a hard time deciding between a Lowrance unit and the Hummingbird, but ultimately the price made the difference. I was able to get this unit for $559 for the display, transducer, mounts and everything needed to mount the unit. Is this a good price or about average for what most of you are seeing. It was also no tax and no shipping because it was an ebay purchase.

Can't wait to get my boat and get this installed on it. Just a couple of more weeks to go.:D

I got a 787 with the external antenna last fall, and I really like it.
The base map built in - well, it was entertaining, as I had been used to
an old dinosaur gps with no maps at all, and no way to put them on it...
the base maps were sorta "etch-a-sketchish" and not much help, sometimes
you'd be on water and it'd show you up on dry land no contour lines at
all, just either water, or land on small lakes, or 25' lines on some big lakes.
Later on I got the nav card, and it is great!
The price sounds good, I got mine at Cabela's, and it was more than that
without a transducer - I'm using the built-in trans. on my trolling motor.
But, I had some Cabela's bucks burning a hole in my pocket I unloaded :D

I spent my Cabela bucks at Xmas. My pocket started heating up, so I spent 'em.

    Tom,

I got my Navionic maps in today. My 787c2i hasn't even shipped yet. The cartridge says that I can't stick it in my computer and view the files. Then they say there is some software...blah, blah, blah. Can I get some FREE software so I can stick this thing in my computer and get to work?

I ain't too "up" on all this stuff, but I THINK Navionics sells a gizmo now
for only a hundred or two so you can look at them on your 'puter.

Well, I got my 787c2i in today and have ordered the Navionics HotMaps '08 for the unit. I also went ahead and got a second station setup with the quad beam for the front of the boat. With the quick disconnect mounts, it should be real easy to switch back and forth from the console to the front of the boat. Can't wait to get the boat and everything put on it. I appreciate all the help. Thanks

By the way, I don't know how this guy stacks up to some of the other place to by GPS units and fish finders, but I ordered my unit two days ago and got it today and he had a really good price on the unit I bought. You may check him out if any of you are in the market for a new unit. I don't know anything about the outfit, but I know I was very pleased with the service.
