Do the down imaging graphics display as fast as the 2d?

That is so cool. The down-imaging will be a great help in learning how to interpret the 2D sonar. A real eye-opener.

    Thanks for the pic.

Do you have to have an SI unit in order to have down imaging?

Down Imaging is accomplished with 455 kHz sonar, so yes, only a Side Imaging fishing system will be capable of Down Imaging.

For 2010, the 1197, 998, 898, and 798 will be Down Imaging equipped.

Previous model years of the 1197, 997, and 798 can be upgraded to Down Imaging through a free software update from the Humminbird website. That update is due in January.

Hello Don, Seeing the pictures of those fish you're catching from your local honey hole, why worry about a down imaging unit? When we meet up in the spring, I might have to steal the batteries from your GPS to even the playing field! Glad to see the Fish Gods are smiling on you. Hope You and Your's enjoy a beautiful Thanksgiving!
