Default What all do I need.....HB info

I am getting a SI unit for x-mas and need to know what all I will need to hook it up to my 788. I want to use the GPS puck I have installed now for both units, share waypoints, and also get a regular ducer for the SI unit to use the downscan......what all will i need for this setup besides the obvious which are:

    both units,
3 transducers (a skimmer, a TM mount, and the SI ducer),
    power cables,
    GPS antenna

thanks for filling me in on the rest!!!

This past summer, I ran a 788 at the bow and interchanged between a 997 an an 1197 at the console. That's a very effective set-up for all styles of fishing.

You will not need a separate "normal" transducer for Down Imaging. DI uses the same hi-def Side Imaging transducer that comes standard with the 1197, 998, and the new 898 units. Of course, you can add a second through-hull transducer for hi-speed 2D sonar, but that's an option, not a necessity.

I ran my 788 using the US2 transducer in my MinnKota Terrova. All I needed to do that was the appropriate Universal Sonar adapter.

You'll need an interlink system to allow your two unit to communicate with each other and share waypoints and navigation information. The interlink comes complete with all the necessary cables to establish your network. You'll have the option of running one GPS puck into the interlink to serve both head units, or give each unit its own puck....that's the required configuration to take advantage of the latest enhanced GPS refresh rate.

One nice option which I recently added was the XM weather accessory. This accessory looks like a second GPS puck which receives up-to-date weather information from an XM satellite. It provides radar with hazards (like lightning), wind speed and direction, and local forecasts. I've only been on the water once during iffy weather since I installed it, but with all the time I spend guiding and tournament fishing, I suspect that this accessory will be especially useful. No more fighting with poor cell phone reception, trying to download a recent radar image from the national wx service.

Congrats on getting set up with a new Humminbird network. Please let me or one of the other Humminbird guys know if you have any questions as you get set up.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think that Motorguide makes an adapter for their internal transducer to work with a Humminbird head unit.

I agree with Jason: I don’t think that they make an adapter for this as I’ve looked on their web site before and could not find one.

I would seriously consider each unit having its own GPS Receiver. Not only will each unit than be able to update the boat position at the faster rate but it will make all waypoints that you mark on the sonar Views more accurate as well. Since you will be getting a new GPS Receiver along with your new Si unit you won’t have to buy anything else. If you need a diagram on how to connect them both up with the InterLink, just let me know.

Greg the 798 units will you be able to upload the down imaging software to it??????? I know that the 997 units will have a tuff time with the software considering the smaller processer??????????

Not Greg, But you will be able to down load the Down Imaging Software into the 798 in January from Humminbird :: Fishfinder :: Depth Finder :: GPS Chartplotters :: Side Imaging Sonar Technology :: Marine Fish Finders
