    Default Humminbird Flasher

I have installed a Humminbird 788ci on my trolling motor. It has a 'circular flasher view' and no information in the manual as to what it does or how, and when to use it.
No information regarding colored rings either.

Help for the old guy would be much appreciated.

    Steve,
The Flasher View is the same information that is shown in the RTS Window when it is set to the Narrow setting. Sonar return signal strengths are depicted with different colors (depending on the Color Palette setting you have set). Other than the use of colors, it is exactly the same as any other flasher in that the signals that are returned are displayed on a round ring format instead of a straight down format like on the Chart View. By using the Flasher View you are limiting the unit to displaying only those sonar returns that are directly under the transducer at that moment (well at up to 40 times a second anyways). All menus that can be used on the normal 2D sonar in the Chart View will affect the sonar returns shown in the Flasher View as well.

If need I can e-mail you a copy of one of older flasher unit manuals that may help explain it all a little better than I have.

    Default Thank you Gregg

I receved the manuals and have printed the pertinate info.
This is great stuff. It makes good sense why Humminbird would enclude this feature I can see some good benefits along with the i-pilot when it is in the stationary position.

Glad I could help Steve. Get an old flasher-man (get your minds out of the gutter! I mean someone who used to run the older type mechanical flasher units!) out on your boat. Except for the color and the faster update rate there is really no difference between what the Flasher View shows and how the mechanical flashers show fish and other objects. For stationary jigging I bet it would be the cat’s meow.

You know what, I should have sent you the IceFlasher manul too. Its a color flasher that we make now and may have a little more helpful info for you. expect another e-mail.
