I had a chance to run a pre-release copy of Down Imaging on my Humminbird 1197 this past weekend. While most of my time was devoted to walleyes, I did chase down a few specks as well. Here are some split-screen views of Down Imaging side-by-side with Side Imaging. These were taken on a backchannel of the Mississippi River, near a bridge, where some deeper, slow water was holding a large number of crappie, white bass and sheephead.
I'll have more information on Down Imaging posted on my website soon. For now, enjoy these Down Images and Side Images of your favorite fish.
Here's one more, which shows the enhanced resolution you can expect from Down Imaging relative to conventional 2D sonar. This tree sits relatively upright in the main channel of the Mississippi....and must be covered from top to bottom with jigs, crankbaits, weights, hooks, etc etc etc. I really like how Down Imaging provides a detailed image of all of the branches on the tree, rather than just showing the trunk.
Thanks JASON..... now.... sime to start feeding the piggy bank again.

Who's Jeff?
Remember, if you're a current owner of a Side-Imaging equipped Humminbird Fishing System, then the software upgrade to equip your unit with Down Imaging is free.
That is correct, as I understand it. The 797 will not be receiving many of the software updates that the 798, 997, and 1197 will be receiving (in addition to the new 898 and 998).
nice thanks
The fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad
Looking forward to the update for my 997, and the Ipilot. When is the release date for the Ipilot?
