The version of software that they were made with. The 2010 models will have the Down Imaging sonar and Waypoint Management software in them. Doesn’t matter which year model 1197 you buy though as the software can be updated for free in any of them.

    Hi Greg,

Will the 2010 1197's be shipping with Contour XD and the 50 channel GPS antenna?

Doh! I forgot the ContourXD maps!
Yes the 1197’s built for 2010 will have the ContourXD maps and the GR50 GPS Receiver. We have been shipping all 1197 units with the GR50 GPS Receiver, so that should not be a concern.

There's nothing on the Humminbird web site about this yet.

The larger units also have the added 800kHz Si frequency (that most never use) for added detail (but it does not cover as wide of an area as the 455kHz does nor does it work as deep). They will also have video out, Ethernet ports and one other connector that I don’t know what it does yet (I think its just a NMEA In connection). I’ve been told that these units will be able to use future accessories that the 798 units won’t be able to do to these connections. Now what these are they did not say…
Does the quote above apply to the 2010 model 1197's..??

And does the 2010 model 1197's have the newer faster processor...??

We have always built the 1197 units with the 800kHz Si sonar frequency capability. They have also always had a Video Out, Ethernet and an NMEA In connector. There are no electrical changes scheduled for the 1197 that I am aware of. It already uses a faster processor than the older 997 units did. How this will compare to the new 898/998 units I do not know yet.

I'll chime in briefly regarding processor speed.

This summer I ran both a 997 and an 1197. When taking screen captures, the 1197 (with its faster processor) would write these virtually instantaneously. With the 997, there would be a slight delay...a couple of seconds I'd say, while the unit wrote the screen capture file.

I also noticed a difference when redrawing a chart while I was running across a lake. With the 997, I'd see some of the dreaded "white boxes of death" on my chart view as the processor dried to redraw the chart at a fast enough rate to keep up with my boat speed. I have not noticed that to any significant degree with my 1197....although I admit that I've been running that unit with a pre-release Lakemaster chip rather than a Navionics chip. So, that chart redraw performance difference may be related to both the processors and the chips.

    Hi Greg,
    Thanks for the previous reply.

Will Humminbird be upping their warranty to 2 years (for 2010) to match Lowrance which has (now) a 2 year limited warranty on all their HDS boxes?
