Thread: Older Hummingbird fishfinder.

I inherited a Hummingbird LCR 8000 with a boat and was wondering if anyone still uses a model this old? With the age of sonar completely updated, it is hard not to question if I should keep this unit on the boat. It works for one, and the screen is huge. Just looking for opinions on this unit. up until 2 months ago I was using an LCR 1000.... it worked just fine.... not as detailed by a far site, but it still found cover and fish.

any fishfinder is better than none so if it is only finder on boat use it

Yes there is. It's a hook on the end of a string. Still using analog version. The digital hasn't been perfected yet

Years ago before all the depth finders were around, all the guides on Ky lake used a carpenter's plum level on a string, and bounce it off the bottom of the lake to find there hotspots, that and lining up trees or something on the bank to mark there spots.

And you know...they did just as good as we are doing today with all the bs we have. They were good to say the lease, and they use the Ky. double drop rigs with 30 lb. line with a 2 to 3 oz. weight on the bottom.

I use to use Johnny Gibson on Ky. Lake, and I don't remember him having a depth finder in his boat, man times have changed haven't they!
