hummingbird Greg
I was looking for the guy that was real happy with his HB565 and found you. I'm not happy and it just may be that I'm not smart enough to understand it.
Inverse, white line and structure ID are a problem for me. I always have what I call three bottoms, when over 10ft. I use the top line as the real bottom and I could live with that untill I have a fish or fish'ess swim by under the second line. Now I don't know what the real bottom is, except I'm not fishing in that deep of water. I have worked the sensitity to more or less and get rid of the fish but still have three bottoms when over 10 ft of water. I hope this makes sense to you, maybe you can enlighten me.
If anyone else want to help, Ill sure listen.
Thank you

EJL,
So in deeper than 10 feet of water the 565 is showing you the primary bottom return at 10 feet, a secondary retunn at 20 feet and a third return at 30 feet right?
Is this only when over a hard bottom type? (Hard bottoms reflect more sonar back to the transducer. In some conditions this is enough to bounce off the surface of the water, than back down to the bottom again and back to the transducer. This can happen multiple times.)
What does the digital depth readout show?
If the second line is truly a second bottom return that the fish being shown is one of two things: either it is a fish that is far out to the side of the transducer (more than 20 feet away from the transducer if you are in 10 feet of water) or the unit has mis-identified the sonar return as a fish.

I have been try to learn the operation of the sonar, so I have stayed on lake Decatur and there are no hard bottoms in the lake, just pure mud. Weather and nasty cold have keep me off the lake, then throw in old ageI have lost track of things. Give me a day or two I'll try the sonar again and write down what I have problems with and get back to you.
Thank you
EJL

Hello Greg. Been out twice trying to learn this 565 and not doing well. I controlled the second bottom by going to manual on depth. I was only in 7ft of water, but I could still see the second bottom at the very bottom of screen. If I went to auto I would get the bottom. It just followed the top to the inch. I don't know if this is something I have to live with or not. At least I never had any fish below the 1st bottom and then again I'm not sure I was getting any fish inducation at all. The tracker fish finder that I have in back was beeping continous. What I have done is remove the tracker FF and moved the HB 565 to back and put the fishmark back on the troling motor. I'm going to FL. next month and got to start getting ready. Maybe I can spend more time with the 565. I hate to say I got a lemon or I'm to stupid to learn the FF. Wish their was somplace I could talked or show someone what I'm viewing and maybe they could educate me.

EJL,
Taking a picture of what you are seeing would help a lot. I would like to speak with you over the phone as well but have to leave work early today (have to Wifey out of town). E-mail me the picture if you can but definitely e-mail me a phone number that I can speak with you at on Monday morning. Better tell what are good times to call to ‘cause I come in to work at 6:30 am!
