Default Powerdrive vs Terrova

My trolling motor died and I am going to replace it with either a Minn Kota Powerdrive or a Terrova in anticipation of the I-Drive. From the specs it appears to me they are the same motors except for the mount. Is that correct? There is a couple hundred dollars difference in price. Is a Terrova worth the extra $$? If so why?
Thanks

I have a terrova and never been around the pd's. I don't guess there is anything different other than the foot pedal. Maybe someone else can give some other differences

One difference was the V-2 motor with a co pilot didn't allow you to turn the AP feature on and off from the remote, whereas the Terrova's remote did. That should be a mute point with the new I- Pilot.

While the i-Pilot is compatible with both Terrova and PowerDrive V2, my recommendation is to go Terrova.

First, the installation was clearly designed with Terrova in mind. It will take 5 minutes, TOPS, to install i-Pilot in a Terrova. PowerDrive V2s will require significantly more effort to install i-Pilot.

Second, the foot pedal retains full functionality with Terrova, while the foot pedal is completely overridden by i-Pilot in PowerDrive V2 motors.

Field test information on i-Pilot, including a short article on installation in a Terrova (with pics for each step of the install process), can be found at the website below:

I Have A Power Drive Without I Pilot I Hate The Foot Pedal On It It Is Very Hard To Control Compared To A Cable Steer Model. I Have Threatened To Throw It In The Lake And Buy A Cable Steer Model.

Wait til you get older and your legs will be grateful for the PDs. But then the rate electronics are going they will probably have voice controlled units in a few years.

"I said, 'Hang a Louie at the log, you stupid machine! A Louie!... Turn left! No Left!!"

"Dear Greg, when can we expect the voice delay problem to be addressed in an upcoming software release?"

Just pulling yer leg there folks. I'm sure the voice stuff will be great. Long about the time I quit talking....

Jason's response is dead on.

I ran the older PD models for many years. I upgraded to the Terrova last year and Love it. I like the foot pedal on the Terrova much better than the older PD models. I have AP and co-pilot..

Maybe it's just me, but it seems that the "auto-pilot" on the terrova is much smoother and provides much better control than the other PD models.. I have ran all of the PD models at one time or another and the Terrova is best in my opinion.

Can't wait for I-pilot to get here.

Find a couple of fishermen close to you that have the two different models on their boats.. Ask them to take you fishing (offer to buy gas or something) and test drive the two units. This might help you decide..

Good Luck

V2 foot pedal sucks. Docking the motor sucks too. The shaft is off center causing me to strain to get the motor positioned to snap it in the cradle. I wish it had some type of counterbalance so I did not have to strain to align the motor with the dock.

You all know what I mean or maybe I am just an old wooze.

That was an option on the RF Motorguides a few years back. I (unfortunatly)
bought one of those things, and it came with a video tape showing the
voice control option being used... looked cool, but the rest of the system
was such a dud I never got as far as ordering the voice control accessory.
Laser 52 RF. By a long way the worst trolling motor I've ever been around.
